Social media - can it really benefit your practice?

Capitalise teamed up with three rising social media stars of accounting to find out the answer.

Adriana Amato Jul 30, 2019

It’s become a huge part of the way businesses think about what they are doing and how they are coming across. To delve deeper, we hosted a panel discussion with accounting professionals that use social media heavily within their practice, and reap the benefits. The conversation was MC’d by Capitalise’s own Yohan.

On the panel:

Laura Taylor is the founder of Empowered by Cloud, a small accountancy firm based in Fyfe in Scotland, serving clients across the whole country. She is passionate about enabling small businesses to gain a better understanding of their finances in a straightforward, easy to digest way. Having built up such a presence on LinkedIn, she now gets more LinkedIn messages than she does emails.

Robert Collings manages the Tech and High Growth sector specialism at UHY Hacker Young, one of the UK’s top 20 firms. This involves assisting the firm’s tech start-up clients on anything finance related, whether that’s a small firm or a company with several hundred employees. Robert has been given the green light to work on his own content from partners who themselves understand the importance of social media.
Karl Roberts is one of the two partners at GMR Accountants Ltd, a small firm based in Southport, Merseyside. He is passionate about helping business owners improve their businesses and ultimately their lives. Karl went from attending networking events for years with minimal return in terms of new clients, to gaining on average one new client from every post

They covered:

  • How and why accountants should transcend into the world of social media
  • 'Lurkers’, who they are and what they're looking for
  • The benefits of being different in such a competitive industry
  • The difference between building out personal and professional profiles
