When Cian Iddison joined the advisory team at Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants in March 2024, he was a newly qualified accountant stepping into his first advisory role. Two years later, he built a Credit Review Service offering from scratch for the firm, delivered measurable results for every single client he has worked with, and embedded credit management into the fabric of his firm, all powered by Capitalise.
Spotting the opportunity for better credit profiles
It started at The Corporate Finance Network conference in Chester, where Capitalise CEO Paul Surtees was sharing real-world examples of the Credit Review Service and the difference it makes for business owners. Cian did not just listen politely and return to the day job. He immediately grasped the value of what Capitalise had built and took responsibility for rolling it out across the firm, with the full backing of his senior leadership team.
Integrating credit tools into the heart of the firm
From the outset, Cian built his rollout around Capitalise's platform. He actively uses Monitor and its filters, sorting his firm's client list by changes in credit score or credit limit, to identify where the Credit Review Service could add value. Each month, he holds advisory catch-ups with the firm's directors and together they decide which clients would benefit from a conversation about their credit profile.
What sets his approach apart is how deeply Capitalise's tools are now embedded across Dyke Yaxley. Capital Reports feature on the agenda at every client meeting, discussed by managers and directors alike. All newly promoted or recruited managers receive a Monitor login and are trained by Cian personally, so that discussing business credit becomes a natural part of their role. When a manager or director identifies a potential Credit Review Service case, they make a warm introduction and Cian takes it from there: a focused Teams call, usually no longer than 30 minutes, built around the insight Capitalise provides.
A 100% success rate, in every case
In two years, Cian has completed 10 Credit Review Service cases. In every single one, the client's credit score and/or credit limit improved. That is a 100% success rate, a remarkable track record that speaks to the power of Capitalise's service and the quality of its tools.
One example involved a fast growing process consultancy business that was beginning to tender for larger contracts. Despite strong growth, the business had a credit score of just 41 (D) and a credit limit of £7,200, largely because the publicly available information did not fully reflect the strength of the company. After discussing the issue with the company’s CFO, Cian proposed a Credit Review Service case to provide additional context and financial information to the credit reference agencies. Following the review, the company’s credit score increased from 41 (D) to 82 (B), while its credit limit rose from £7,200 to £100,000. For the client, the improvement was more than just a stronger profile. It gave the business greater confidence when bidding for larger public sector contracts, knowing its credit profile now better reflected the scale and credibility of the company behind the tender.
Client feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. As one business owner put it:
"For very little work it has given us a financial profile that truly reflects the strength of our business. The service directly strengthened our tender submissions and we would highly recommend the service to any business."
Cian credits much of this impact to how Capitalise presents information. "The Payment Performance traffic light graphic in the Capital Report is really impactful and self-explanatory," he explains. "Many clients are quite embarrassed if they see red or amber, it creates an immediate, productive conversation." Once a director has been through the process, he adds, it becomes "quite addictive", with repeat requests and introductions to other companies in their group.
A competitive edge for Dyke Yaxley
The Credit Review Service has done more for Dyke Yaxley than improve individual credit scores. It has given the firm compelling content for LinkedIn and its website, strengthening its profile as a commercially minded adviser. In one case, a private equity investor reviewing Dyke Yaxley as adviser to a business they were interested in potentially acquiring, saw a post about the service and asked for it to be applied to another company in their portfolio.
"It differentiates us from our local competitors, who are not offering this yet. Business owners don't expect us to be talking about credit scores, and they find it really impressive that we are so commercial." - Cian Iddison, Business Advisory Specialist
The service also functions as a low-friction entry point for new client relationships, allowing the firm to demonstrate its advisory value from the very first engagement, with Capitalise providing the intelligence to back it up.
At Capitalise, we could not be more proud to work alongside someone with this level of drive, commercial awareness and genuine care for the businesses he serves.
